2012!!!

February 8, 2012

Hi!

Strange how fast the time flies. I feel like I just played the 9-ball championships and it is now 2 months ago. I have not had any time or strenght to acutally write something. Strange, but that is is sometimes.

I ended on third place in the womens 9-ball championships and 25th in the open division. I am not very happy, but Line played great in the semis and I did not have the rolls on my side. The cameracrew following Line and the microphone did not help:)

The new season started much better:)

I am playing in division 1 this year and will use the norwegian ranking tournaments to practice. I will travel much more in Europe and play the womens tournaments, we have now got 5 stops that will make up a European ranking together with 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball in the EC.

The first ranking tournament was in Haugesund and I went undefeated to win it. I played really well, we played 8-ball and I felt in complete control almost all the way. The only close match was with Trond Kenneth Eikeskog in the semis, he is a snookerplaying poolplayer:) We had a good time, Tor Bjerke, Stein Espeland and I. I have missed being on the road with my clubmates:)

Next tournament was the Italy womens 10-ball open. This tournament was one of the five that will count towards the european ranking. Katrine Grotle and I met up in Frankfurt and flied from there to Verona. In Verona we picked up the smallest rental car I have ever seen to go on the highway to Bolzano, a Peugeot 107.  Next time I am in Italy I will have a bigger car!! It is a little bit scary to not have any power and be the size of a fly inbeetween all the fast and furious cars in Italy…. We got there alright though, we actually had a good laugh on the way. The tournament started saturday and I won my first match against Roberto Russo, ITA, with 7-6 puh. Next match against Natasha Seroshtan, RUS, did not go so well . I played good, but kept on breaking dry. Natasha did the most out of her opportunities and won 7-4. On the loosers side I met Sara Rocha, POR, and I did not play good at all. I pulled myself together and and won 7-4, but that was a struggle. And the struggle continued into the loosers qualification… My opponent was Teresa Bachler, AUT, and that was an upphill match all the way.  I fought and fought, but it was no good. In the end I lost 7-5 and ended up on a dissapointing 17th place. Caroline Roos from Sweden won, atleast we kept the victory in Scandinavia:) Well done Carro!

The Norwegian championships womens division in 8-ball and 10-ball was this weekend and that is a completly different story. I went undefeated through both championships and is norwegian champion in both divisions for 2012. We were not that many participants, and Line Kjørsvik was not there, but still, you have to play to win. In 8-ball I played against Mona Bergstø in the finals and won 6-4. In 10-ball I played against June Therese Håndstad in the semis (6-1) and Camilla Jacobsen in the finals (6-3). I also have to mention that Heidi Bratthammer, one of the players helping me in the poolhall, got her first medal in 8-ball.  Congratulations with third and bronze:) All in all it was a good tournament and all the players from Svithun did a good job. Camilla Jacobsen silver in 10-ball and we all had a really good time. Hope to see you girls back in my poolhall soon:)

Now I am concentrating on getting ready for the European Championships en the end of march. Line Kjørsvik and I make up the women team and the mens team is Kristoffer Mindrebøe, Mats Schejtne, Matey Ullah and Roger Rasmussen. Our terrific coach Jörgen Sandman will offcourse join us and so will Katrine Grotle, our sportsdirector. This will be a good trip!!! I just got news that they will use breakbox in 9-ball and 10-ball, which means I will have to practice on the breakshot before I go. It is kind of strange breaking differently from what works the best for me and this weekend I have a 10-ball ranking tournament to play.. I think I will leave the break like it is to after the weekend:)

Time to open the poolhall and get some PAT in!

For those of you who do not know what that is, go to http://www.pat-billiard.com/

Have a great day!

Norwegian Championships 9-ball

December 10, 2011

It has been a few extremly busy days. Normally I would write something before a tournament, but this is the first time I have been sitting down for more than a few minutes this week… I am beeing a torunament director, playing two torunaments and have been finishing of some pootables and lighting the last week…We are playing both the open division and the womens division and the women can participate in both.

In the open division I made it to the last 32 and then lost to first Anders Brannfjell, then Malvin Bjelland. 25th and ok. I am actually really pleased that i made it so far, the level is high and it is not easy to be the tournament director on top of playing.

In the womens division I lost against Martine Christiansen late at night. Exhausted after being in the hall playing and managing the tournament since eight in the morning. That ment the long road today and I won my matches 7-0 (Renate Backelin), 7-3 (June T Håndstad) and 7-4 (Mona Bergstø)

I will update again tomorrow, westart the semifinals in the womens division at 10:00

Now, watching Lines semifinals against Christian Johannessen and then off to bed! Heia Line:)

Thanks for reading

It looks like something is happening. First we had the Finnish 10-ball open in august and now the Italy open is scheduled for january. On top of this Ina Jentschura has worked on the Eurotour for women and it looks like we wil actually have a few stopes in 2012!! All this is good news. We desperatly need some more tournaments in Europe, those of us who does not play WPBA are falling behind big time. I hope this is the beginning of a new era for European female poolplayers!

I have started to arrange the trip to Italy and I hope we get a lot of players. In Finland we were only 25 and that is not enough. It is a start, but not enough. I think we all have a obligation to play the tournaments that is being arranged, if not they will stop having them.

Look forward to seeing you all in Bolzano Italy!!

I is good to be home. It always feels bad when you do not perform your best during a tournament. And it feels even worse after travelling half way around the world. That said, I have done very good the two previous years and I did try my best and made all the right preparations. I always try to see the positive side and I just have to take this as a learning process. And I had a really good time with my friends! I also made some new friends, I met Alison Chang among others, and that was all together a positive experience:)

The only thing I did after my last post was going to the banquet. This was a tiresome event, but important for all the sponsors and officials. They served us a 25 course meal and I think that says it all. The new world champion and all the Chinese players was there, and some of us western players. Alison got me one of the posters with the picture of Line and me and I collected autographs for once to hang on the wall in the poolhall.

Final top players:

World Champion: Bi Zhu Qing (CHN)

Runner up: Chen Siming (CHN) Now world no 1

Third place: Han YU (CHN) I beat her in  the first round last year:)

Fourth place: Fu Xiaofang (CHN) 2010 champion

Norwegian players: Line Kjørsvik, 17th place  Ine Helvik 49th place

Best western player: Monica Webb (US) and Brittany Bryant ( CAN) 9th place

We might go back to Shenyang next year, they want another two years of having the tournament. I would be happy to see it being held somewhere in the western world, I think that would change the odds a bit. We just have to wait and see what happens.

The end.. the Chinese masacre

September 25, 2011

Sorry for the lack of new posts. When you loose you get kind of fed up with everything, but I should write something earlier. I lost both my first day matches and that felt really bad after all that preparation. I had some really bad rolls and from that Thats life. 2009: 17th place 2010: 9th place 2011: 49th place…

I was joined by some pretty good players though. Allison Fisher was two and out. Kelly Fisher was out in the group stages. Caroline Roos was two and out. Lyndall Hulley was out in the group stages.  Marika Poikkijoki was  out n the group stages. Kynthia Orfanidis was out in the group stages….. The list is long.

The last 32 did not have that many western players left and after the first round in the single elimination we were destroyed…Line Kjørsvik, Tamara Peeters, Eylül Kibaroglü, Jasmin Ouschan, Monica Webb, Brittany Bryant and Kamila Khodjaeva all made it to the last 32. When the last round of the day was over we had only Monica Webb and Brittany Bryant left. After the last 16 round we had none. They both lost their matches 8-9. Last 8 had 7 Chinese and 1 Taiwan player. Last four is down to 4 Chinese and Fu Xiaofang, last years champion, just got beaten in the semis by a Chinese we have not heard of before..  The government funded poll in China is really producing a lot of good players.

Tomorrow I will go back home and I am really looking forward to that. First we have the the finals and the banquet tonight, I might post some pictures from that when I come back home.

Here is some pictures from the last couple of days and there is also a pictures to be found on wpa-pool.com. Allison Chang has done a great job! And thank you Allison for getting me the poster:) She has also taken a lot of photos from the tournament that I will post later.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

Have a good day
